How To Celebrate

wear something related to an animal you want to celebrate (socks with llamas, a cat sweater, a full suit, you do you)

do something nice for an animal (or several!)

make animal-shaped sugar cookies and other treats

decorate with pictures of animals, animal balloons, etc

listen to songs about animals (really liberal here, like When Doves Cry counts)

dance to those songs

eat pizza with some friends

Why

February is pretty bleak in the northern hemisphere. Valentine’s Day is a fine holiday but also excludes lots of people. Just about everyone we know likes some animals though, so let’s make a fun holiday out of that.

Rules

The first rule of animals day is tell everyone about animals day.

The second rule is that Animals day falls on the penultimate Saturday in February. You can remember with “penguin-ultimate Saturday.”

Since it’s a newly made up holiday originally created to make a toddler smile, there just aren’t a lot of rules.
